Laser Plumb Level

Laser Plumb Level

With the advent of several laser plumb level devices, the days of using strings, level tubes and tiny plumb bobs have been relegated as a thing of the past. Plumb leveling is now done faster than ever through the use of these laser devices. The leveling done through these devices is more accurate as well, a requirement when doing work at a pro level.

Because of their rapidly rising popularity, there are many manufacturers of laser plumb level devices. These manufacturers include Stanley, Topcon, Johnson, Bushnell, and CST. Let's take a close look at what some of these companies have on the laser plumb market, and what these devices have to offer the consumers.

Topcon RL-VH3D

RL-VH3D is a fully self-leveling laser plumb level device. It can also be used for horizontal and vertical leveling applications. Its fast leveling motors do the job of leveling for you when a height detector finds that the set-up is disturbed. Plus, you get full control of the laser beam using the patented Scanning Plus technology from Topcon. Just a press of a button, and you're on your way to work.

Johnson 40-6660 Multi-beam Self Level Laser

The 40-6660 by Johnson is another example of a laser plumb level device. It is capable of project four laser cross-lines, as well as a single laser point aside from its down plumb function. It can also emit one horizontal line and three perpendicular vertical lines and a red-colored plumb down point. Like its name suggests, it is a self-leveling device with an alarm system that is activated when the device is misaligned beyond its capability to re-level system. The system also flashes the laser as a visual cue for you to manually align it.

Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Laser

The RT-7610-5 is another example of an all-around self-leveling laser. It is capable of emitting 5 orthogonal beams in a level, plumb, or square settings. It has a sturdy design that is resistant to dust, dirt and water corrosion. Its laser has a range of up to 100 feet, and has an accuracy rate of 1.25 inch. The self-leveling capacity is carried by an electronic servomotor operation that flashes the laser beam while the laser is being restored to its original level. The RT-7610-5 can be mounted on 5/8-inch by 11 tripod to enable rotating operation. The tripod is sold separately. It is powered by four AA batteries-fits into your pocket-and automatically shuts off if the battery is low.

FatMax PB2

The FatMax PB2 features a unique leveling system that is touted to settle a plumb bob 20 times faster than the usual methods carpenters use. The system uses a magnetically dampened leveling system for this purpose. At the push of a button, the PB2 comes up with a highly visible vertical and horizontal reference for plumb settling. The PB2 can be used to align joists and rafters as well as for aligning studs, conduits and plummings. The PB2 is also ideal for transferring points from floors to ceiling. The PB2 laser plumb level device can emit a 635-nanometer laser beam at a maximum range of 100 feet, and has an accuracy of 1/8 inch at a 50-feet range.
